Our Diagnostic Services

We are proud to have advanced diagnostic testing at our in-house veterinary diagnostics lab and, are pleased to be able to give your pets accurate diagnosis of their medical conditions.

  • Radiography (Digital X-Rays)

With a radiograph (digital X-ray), we are able to examine your pet's internal systems to look for information that might not be seen from the outside.

Radiography is painless, non-invasive and safe. It only uses really low amounts of radiation. Because of the low levels of radiation exposure required very young pets and pregnant females can have this procedure.

We can use radiographs to evaluate organs and bones, and diagnose conditions such as spinal cord diseases, bladder stones, chronic arthritis, broken bones and several tumors.

  • Ultrasound

With diagnostic imaging our veterinary team can get in-depth images of your companion's internal structures.

Ultrasound imaging produces images from inside the body, by exposing it to high-frequency sound waves.

Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time our vets are able to see the movement and structures of animals internal organs and blood flow through the vessels.

This technology is extremely valuable because it allows our vets to obtain a quick and accurate diagnose of your cat or dog's medical condition so they can begin treatment sooner.

  • Endoscopy

An endoscope consists of a very small camera that has a light attached on the end of a flexible tube.

When performing an endoscopy, our vets insert a thin, long, tube directly into your pet's body so they can examine the internal organs or tissues in detail.

We can insert minimally invasive endoscopes into openings of the body including the anus or mouth.

  • Cold Lasers

Cold lasers are therapeutic and rehabilitative treatments for pets. These low-intensity lasers help to encourage cell growth, reduce swelling/ inflammation and relieve pain.

At South Novato Animal Hospital, our talented team of vets are dedicated to providing  your pets with the best treatments available. Therapeutic treatments with cold lasers are an effective, non-invasive and safe way of helping pets overcome surgery, illness or injury.

A vast range of conditions can be helped with cold laser therapy including symptoms of arthritis, muscle spasms and  joint and muscle pain.

  • ECG / EKG

If your vet suspects that your cat or dog may have a heart disorder they will most likely take X-rays of your pet's chest and perform an electrocardiogram (ECG / EKG).

This is a quick and easy procedure that revels data that could be important when diagnosing your pet. In some cases a cardiac ultrasound could also be needed to help identify any disorders in their heart's chambers.

  • Digital Dental X-Rays

If you pet has periodontal disease, most of the damage happens beneath the gum line where it is not easy to see. Digital Dental X-rays help our vets examine your cat or dog's overall oral health.

This type of X-ray is safe for your furry companion, and allows our team to check the internal anatomy, bones and roots of your pet's teeth.

The risk of radiation exposure with digital X-rays is a-lot lower then the risk associated with traditional X-ray technology. With digital dental X-rays our vets are able to look beneath your cat or dog's gum line and fully examine each tooth.

With this technology your vet at South Novato Animal Hospital can get the X-ray results immediately and display them for review on a computer screen.
